I’m a Virgin!
Considering the sexualised nature of pop culture today, being a virgin (or at least confessing to being one), could be considered a sort of ‘social sin’ - something you’d rather drink to in a game of Never Have I Ever than explain to your peers.
I decided I’d celebrate my virgin status through these self portraits, where I’m surrounded by objects symbolically and historically associated with virginity. These include a homemade chastity belt and the unicorn - ‘a beast’, with a phallic horn, that can only be ‘tamed’ by virgins.
The accompanying t-shirts allow me avoid the awkward conversation of announcing my virgin status to others.
